Terms of use
Last updated October 5, 2026
Draft. This page hasn't had a legal review yet and may change before launch.
Whosentya is operated by Pragmatic Innovations, LLC, doing business as Whosentya ("we"). By using it, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
Who can use Whosentya
- Admins must be at least 18, or the age of majority where they live if that's older, and able to agree to these terms. If you use Whosentya for a group, club or organization, you confirm you're authorized to agree to them on its behalf.
- Joiners must meet WhatsApp's minimum age where they live.
What Whosentya does
Group admins create a "gate" for a WhatsApp group. People who want to join answer the admin's questions and verify their phone number with a one-time code. The admin sees the verified list and decides, inside WhatsApp, who to let in. We don't control WhatsApp and can't approve or reject anyone for you.
We aren't affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta. WhatsApp is a trademark of its owner.
The $1 verification fee
Some gates ask joiners to pay a $1 verification fee before we send a code. It helps keep bots out. The fee is non-refundable, including if an admin decides not to approve you. Two exceptions are refunded automatically:
- You paid again for a gate where you'd already applied (a duplicate payment).
- Your payment went through after your verification session had already expired or been canceled.
The $1 includes any sales tax that applies. Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card statement shows WHOSENTYA.
The $1 is paid by joiners and is separate from admins' plans.
Plans for admins: trial, renewal and cancellation
Running live gates needs a monthly plan. Current plans and prices are on our pricing page. Prices are in US dollars; sales tax is added at checkout where it applies. Payments are processed by Stripe.
- Free trial. Your first plan starts with a 30-day free trial (one per account). A card is required. When the trial ends, it turns into the plan you chose and your card is charged its monthly price, unless you cancel before the trial ends. We email you 7 days before it ends.
- Automatic renewal. Plans renew every month, charged at the start of each month, until you cancel.
- Cancelling. Cancel any time online, in Billing. Your plan keeps working until the end of the month you've paid for, then ends. We don't refund partial months, except where the law requires it or we charged you by mistake.
- Changing plans. Upgrades start right away, and you pay the difference for the rest of the month. Downgrades start at the next renewal; if you then have more live gates than the new plan allows, your most recently launched gates are paused.
- Failed payments. If a payment fails, Stripe retries it for about a week and your gates stay live for 8 days. If it still isn't paid, your plan ends and your live gates are paused. Nothing is deleted: choose a plan again and they come back.
- Limits. Each plan has a number of live gates and of included verifications a month for gates without joiner verification, and a daily limit per gate. When a limit is reached, the gate tells new joiners it's temporarily unavailable until you upgrade, turn on joiner verification, or the next month starts.
- Price changes. We'll email you at least 30 days before a price change, and it applies from your next renewal after that. You can cancel before then.
- Promotion codes apply as described when you enter them, can't be combined, and may end at any time for new sign-ups.
- Who pays. Each gate is billed to one of its owners. Gates count toward that owner's plan, even if other admins help run them.
If you're a joiner
- Use your own phone number and answer honestly.
- Verifying doesn't guarantee you'll be let in. That's up to the group's admins.
- Keep your private status link to yourself.
If you're an admin
- Only create gates for groups you actually help run.
- Use what joiners share only to decide who joins your group. Don't copy it into other lists or contact people for other purposes.
- Keep "Approve new members" on and "Add other members" off in your WhatsApp group settings.
- You're responsible for your group and for who you let in.
What you can't do
- Impersonate a group or person, or use a gate to collect numbers for spam or scams.
- Try to get around our bot checks, rate limits, or payments, or test stolen cards.
- Attack, overload, or scrape the service.
We may suspend gates or accounts that break these rules. Anyone can report a gate from its page.
Services we rely on
Whosentya works alongside services we don't control: WhatsApp (where your group lives), Stripe (payments) and Twilio (verification codes). We can't guarantee that they're available, or that they keep working the way they do today, and we aren't responsible for their outages or decisions. Your use of each is also covered by its own terms.
No warranty
WHOSENTYA IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". TO THE EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE WORK HARD TO KEEP IT RUNNING AND SECURE, BUT WE DON'T PROMISE IT WILL ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE, BE ERROR-FREE, OR STOP EVERY BOT OR BAD ACTOR.
Limits of liability
TO THE EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS: (1) WE AREN'T LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA OR GOODWILL, EVEN IF WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE POSSIBLE; AND (2) OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ABOUT WHOSENTYA IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM. Some places don't allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Your responsibility as an admin
If you're an admin, you agree to defend and indemnify Pragmatic Innovations, LLC and hold it harmless against claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your groups, your gates, how you use what joiners share with you, or your breaking these terms or the law.
Governing law and courts
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute about them or about Whosentya will be decided by the state or federal courts located in Tarrant County, Texas, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms; the date above will change when we do. When a change matters to admins, we'll ask you to accept the new terms before you continue. Questions? Contact us. See also our privacy policy.
